Yes it's against the law. Squirrels if found hurt are suppose to be turned over to a wild life refuge /rehab center. But then I have Two squirrels that I have had for over a year, They were living in the attic of a house that was torn down and it was winter so I took them in.
The other problem for having squirrels that long is if you do let them go, They will not know how to look for food and could starve, This is from being fed by a person for so long(4 Years)
But then people keep exotic Birds, Snakes, Ferrets %26amp; other critters, So I guess if you found a squirrels and took care of it then what's the harm.Is it legal to keep squirrels in captivity?,,in cages in the house?
You should check with your state laws. Some states require that you have a Wildlife Rehab permit, and then you only keep the animals as long as they can't survive in the wild...you do release animals after they are well or grown up.
no. i no a person that has a pet squirrel, but it lives inside and outside, not in a cage.
Its actually illegal in the US... but for the 4 year old squirrel... Im sure by now it knows nothing but being indoors.. a little late for that fella. as for the baby... she should contact a rehabber to raise it.
if she has a rehab permit.. she can legally have them..but is required to release them also.
but you wouldnt believe the people finding squirrels and keeping them... sometimes its sad..sometimes the squirrels rule the roost and personally.. I think its fine.. if the squirrels happy.. I hate to see them caged.. and pacing.. if the squirrels happy.. so be it.
nope
i don't think it's illegal to keep squirrels but it's not good for them and now they realy can't be releast becuse they are now use to humans and wont be abel to find food on ther own
